Whereas, the effect of genetic or environmental perturbations at the metabolic level remains poorly understood, the development of high-throughput experimental technologies for quantitative metabolomics and intracellular flux analysis is now offering the chance to investigate this phenomenon in a systematic manner. Hence, the influence of transcriptional changes on the metabolic layer can be explored using metabolomic screening performed on genetically modified organisms responding to different environmental changes. In this context, the aim of my research project is to develop computational tools for reverse engineering condition-dependent regulatory networks and incorporating metabolomic profiles into gene-network and metabolic models.
