Petri did his PhD in the Centre for Biotechnology at the University of Turku and the Åbo Akademi University. His thesis mainly involved developing methods for protein phosphorylation characterization using different enrichment methods combined with mass spectrometry analysis. Petri moved to the Institute of Molecular Systems Biology at ETH Zurich in August 2011 as a postdoctoral researcher under the supervision of Prof. Ruedi Aebersold. His current research focus is on the generation and the refinement of the SRM transitions for human kinases and applying this technique to different human tissue samples.

Petri is fellow of the Finnish Cultural Foundation (Ester and Uuno Kokki Fund). The Finnish Cultural Foundation is a private foundation that supports private persons and communities in the sectors of science, art and culture.
