Dr. Maria Pavlou
Maria was born in Athens and studied biology at the University of Athens, Greece. Upon graduation, she moved in Canada to pursue post-graduate studies. In January 2009, she started her PhD in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology at University of Toronto under the supervision of Dr E.P. Diamandis. The focus of her PhD thesis was the development of a novel proteomic prognostic signature for breast cancer patients. Her dissertation encompasses a preclinical exploratory study, from discovery to preliminary verification of potential prognostic biomarkers for patients with early breast cancer.
As a post-doctoral fellow, Maria will focus on deciphering the mechanisms employed by the foodborne pathogen Listeria monocytogenes during adaption and infection of the human host.
