Emanuela studied Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at ETH Zürich. During her Diploma thesis she investigated the role of dURI in the nutrient-sensitive TOR signalling pathway in the lab of Prof. Wilhelm Krek.

Subsequently, she joined the group of Dr. Mohamed Bentires-Alj at the Friedrich Miescher Institute (FMI) Basel, where she earned her PhD in cell biology/biochemistry. Her thesis aimed at understanding the role of protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B (PTP1B) in the regulation of mammary cell fate commitment and mammary gland development raising implications for breast tumorigenesis.

As a Roche funded PDF in our team she will focus on how the Hepatitis B Virus is modulating host protein networks for its own propagation and survival.
