Juan completed his undergraduate studies in biology at Buenos Aires University, Argentina. He did his PhD at the same university (2005-2010) and in his thesis, Juan characterized a recently identified protein involved in the SUMOylation and hypoxia signaling pathways. Juan came to the Picotti lab to learn how to apply systems biology concepts, such as discovery and targeted proteomics, to characterize cellular responses to protein misfolding, either in physiological or pathological contexts. He is using dopaminergic neuronal cells as a model system for protein aggregation-dependent cytotoxicity characteristics of several human neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Disease. Juan is a postdoctoral fellow of the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO).
