Izzet Mehmet Akcay
I am from Istanbul. I received my BSc degree in Molecular Biology and Genetics from the Middle East Technical University (METU) in Ankara. For my masters, I returned back to Istanbul and researched on autophagy and immunology. I wrote my MSc thesis on the transcriptional regulation of the IL-7 Receptor alpha in T cells under the supervision of Prof. Batu Erman.
In late 2011, I started my PhD in Ernst Hafen's Lab, under the supervision of Dr. Katja Koehler. Here, I aim to dissect the complex genetic architecture underlying the starvation resistance of Drosophila melanogaster using a systems genetics approach.
Several student projects are available. Please check out the student projects links or come to my office or e-mail to me.
